Large art deco medal

Very uncommon and large art deco medal given in the 1930's to the french seamen on duty in the Achille submarine.
16cm diameter (6.3"). Bronze.

Achille was a French Navy Submarine of the Redoubtable Class. Built in 1928. Scuttled at Brest on the 18th June 1940 to prevent her capture by the Germans. Achille was in drydock and unable to move under own power when the germans entered the city, leaving no alternative but to scuttle.
