Although we know very few about him, André David paintings appear quite frequently on the market, his works are characteristic of the first half of the 20th century. He is renowned for his portraits, most often representing young gypsies, with dark skin, with opulent brown hairstyles, holding a guitar or a tambourine, for his animated views of Paris, Montmartre and the Sacré-Coeur. He painted many nudes of beautiful young women with a cheeky appearance, languidly lying down, eyes turned to the curious gaze of those who observe him, among his paintings are some subjects dealing with brothels. He also painted some canvases intended to decorate the famous Cristal Palace brothel on rue Saint Augustin. More remarkable, he produced superb large frescoes, with an Art-Deco aesthetic, following, like many artists of the 1930s, fashion and a taste for the colonial era, he depicted manly hunters, barely dressed , chasing antelopes, gazelles and various exotic animals.
