In 1894, Raoul Lamourdedieu entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and began to learn woodcarving at the same time. He continued his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Paris in the workshops of Alexandre Falguière and Alexandre Charpentier. In 1900, he participated in the sculpted decoration of the Grand-Palais in Paris. Raoul Lamourdedieu married Mathilde Veber in 1902. In 1908, his workshop was located at no 11 impasse Ronsin in Paris. Lamourdedieu presented his works in various exhibitions until 1930, when he became a professor at the École des beaux-arts, where Jacques Gestalder was his student.
He was commissioned for war memorials and his sculptures toured Europe.
Initially influenced by Auguste Rodin, Lamourdedieu's work then approaches the style of Antoine Bourdelle and Aristide Maillol, in line with the figurative tradition.
In the 1920s, he sculpted the bas-relief of La Force, a work representing the confrontation of a man and a bull. The town of Mont-de-Marsan commissioned him to enlarge this sculpture to erect it on the Place Stanislas Baron, the Arènes roundabout. There is another copy in Fresnes, avenue du Parc-des-Sports. Lamourdedieu also translates this work in the form of a medal.
He is named Knight of the Legion of Honor.
