Count Annibale Galateri of Genola and Suniglia was born in Suniglia (CN) on 29 September 1864. Descendant of a noble family, whose ancestors distinguished themselves in arms, letters, religion and public administration, Annibale Galateri, like other exponents of the Piedmontese nobility who leave the military ranks to devote themselves to the arts, following the example of Massimo D'Azeglio and Giacinto Corsi di Bosnasco, fits into that climate of awakening of the Piedmontese artistic conscience which leads to the renewal of the figurative tradition still strongly linked to neoclassical styles.
Annibale Galateri began his training at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, devoting himself mainly to drawing, painting and architecture under the influence of Enrico Gamba, Giuseppe Giani, Andrea Gastaldi and Alessandro Antonelli.
After completing his studies in Turin, Annibale Galateri moved to Rome where, at the Accademia di San Luca, he followed the teachings of Giulio Monteverde, one of the most important representatives of official sculpture in Rome. Suggested by the expressive potential of the typical materials of sculpture, Galateri returns to Piedmont to frequent the sculptors Odoardo Tabacchi, Davide Calandra, Leonardo Bistolfi and Vincenzo Vela, definitively directing his artistic research to the sculptural practice.
Alongside his artistic activity, for about forty years, Galateri strongly participates in the political and administrative life of some Piedmont realities: he is first councilor, then Mayor of the City of Savigliano (CN), President of the Provincial Deputation and, finally, President of the Royal Commission.
Linked to the classical tradition of Italian sculpture, but strongly influenced by the poetics of late romanticism, Galateri's works are exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad (International Exhibition in Turin in 1911). The sculptor also created important public monuments such as the monument to Vincenzo Vela and the funeral monument to Michele Rua in Turin, and the commemorative monument of the Real Collegio `Carlo Alberto` in Moncalieri.
In 1938, including the non-possible collaborations with the fascist dictatorship, Galateri handed over his resignation from political activity, officially motivating them to precarious health conditions. He died on the Suniglia estate in 1949 .
