    Jean DESPRES (1889-1980)

A rare pair of hammered silvered metal candelabra.
    Stamped with silversmith JD mark.
    Signed. Circa 1930.
    Excellent condition.
    35cm 9cm 14cm

Many candelabras is various last years auctions with very high prices for some of them.
The pair I propose here is extremely rare. Perhaps unique for special order. No similar piece auctioned in the past !

Jean Desprès was a trained silversmith who participated in the renewal of the silversmith trade by removing excess ornamentation and creating more simple, solid pieces in silver and pewter but mainly in silver-plated metal, easily recognised by their hammered appearance. One can find this simplicity of shape and design in this silver-plated piece presented with its handles forming on body with the object, so typical of the designers style during the 1930’s
