A stunning art deco bronze panther.
Signed Carvin and inscribed "PANTHERE DE JAVA" on the marble plinth.
Excellent condition and wonderful black patina.

Carvin 1875 - 1961
Pupil of Fremiet and Gardet, member of French Artists Society, he exhibited at "Salon" of this society from the late nineteenth century to 1933. "Honorable" award in 1894.
Specialized in animal sculptures he did deers, lions, panthers, birds, dogs and even horses.
He realized "the muse of aviation", bronze trophy on May 1, 1909, offered by Leon Bollee, president of the Aero Club de la Sarthe, to the brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright. Trophy is still in their family home (Hawthorne Hill, Dayton, Ohio). For their admittance to the Royal Aeronautical Society in London, he did the bust of each of them. Another of his works, 1934, "Borzoi" is visible in Clamart (France).
