RAYMOND DELAMARRE (French, 1890-1986).

MOWGLI

Copper relief plaque. Signed DELAMARRE and stampe "cuivre"

Kipling's young hero walks through the jungle accompanied by Bagheera, the panther; Baloo, the bear; and Koa, the python. Mingled in the foliage are monkeys, birds, and a squirrel. -
L: 120 mm x H: 100

When, in 1927, Jacques Dembiermont requested a bas-relief for his dining room in his villa in Grandcamp, the theme of Mowgli was chosen: Raymond Delamarre created a bas-relief in patinated plaster, measuring 1.88 m x 2.12 m, after numerous preparatory drawings, in particular of living animals from the Jardin des Plantes de Paris.

This bas-relief was exhibited at the Decorative Arts Exhibition in 1927.
The copper plate is an official miniature of the original piece, edited by "La Monnaie de Paris".
