Jean Magrou large art deco bronze group. Lady with panther

A rare find. Stunning art deco bronze sculpture of a Lady with a Panther....
The attitude of the lady who seems to tell the panther "be careful ! be wise !" is intriguing.
A so elegant pretty lady with a so dangerous animal. You can imagine many symbols....

Double patinated (gilded bronze and silver plated bronze).
Portor marble base.
52cm width. 37cm high (20.5" / 14.5").
Signed in the bronze.

Jean-Marie Joseph Magrou (1869-1945) born in Béziers (France). Father was lithographer. Studies in Lycée Henri IV. Gifted in Latin and Greek. Interested by Mythology. l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Pupil of Gabriel Jules Thomas (1824-1905) and Jean-Antonin Injalbert (1845-1933) Second "Prix de Rome" award for "Silène et les Bacchantes" and gold medal at Paris Salon. En 1898, il épouse Jeanne Rixens, la nièce du peintre André Rixens (1846-1925). Jean Magrou reçoit des commandes de l'Etat dont le Jubilé de Pasteur pour la Sorbonne et réalise de nombreux monuments. Il est l'auteur de la statue équestre de Don Pedro II à Rio de Janeiro. Several art work are displayed in Musée Fayet de Béziers.
