Sterling Silver, enamel and malachite compact. French 1930. Jean Fouquet ?

Art Deco sterling silver compact, circa 1930.

Black enamel and malachite.
With a sleek and refined design, it bears the french "sanglier" title hallmark (sterling silver) and illegible maker's marks. Although these marks cannot be identified, the distinctive design, choice of materials, and craftsmanship closely resemble the work of Jean Fouquet, This would make this compact a significant piece of the Art Deco period.

Jean Fouquet (1899–1984) was a French goldsmith and jeweler, a key figure of the Art Deco movement. Son of jeweler Georges Fouquet, he distinguished himself with a modernist approach, incorporating bold geometric forms and innovative materials such as enamel, lacquer, and semi-precious stones. Influenced by Cubism and Constructivism, he created minimalist pieces with sharp lines and avant-garde aesthetics. His work, exhibited at major artistic events of the time, remains a significant reference in the history of jewelry and decorative arts.
