This bronze was installed in 1948 in MS liner ITALIA.
This liner was inaugurated in 1928 and was dismantled in 1965. It changed companies and names several times. Bought in 1948 by the “home line” company, it was redecorated. Several works by Mashcerini are installed there, including our bronze of Applon, then accompanied by Venus. Marcello Mascherini
Marcello Mascherini (1906–1983) was an Italian sculptor and stage designer known for his modernist and abstract works. Born in Udine, Italy, he gained recognition in the mid-20th century for his bronze sculptures, which often featured elongated and stylized human figures. Mascherini was a key figure in post-war Italian sculpture, participating in major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and the Milan Triennale.
His works often explored themes of movement, drama, and the human condition, blending classical influences with modernist abstraction. In addition to his sculptures, Mascherini was active in theater design, creating innovative stage sets that reflected his artistic vision.
